20/8/09 - Paraffin candles linked to lung cancer, asthma and eczema

A report in the Daily Mail published on 20^th August 2009 says that scientists have discovered a link between paraffin candles and lung cancer, asthma and eczema.

Their tests have shown that burning paraffin candles releases potentially harmful amounts of chemicals such as toluene and benzene. Some of the pollutants have been linked to cancer, while others could trigger asthma attacks or skin complaints.

The scientists also tested beeswax and soy candles and found these to be safe, giving them a clean bill of health.
